Kay had scheduled an appointment to see Jean Magladry at MW Injury Resolutions. She had been involved in a modest car accident which had caused neck and back injuries. The insurance company refused to settle with her and she had no choice but to take legal action to recover her medical bills and other losses.
Jean asked her about the accident, her symptoms and the treatment she had received. Kay began crying when asked how she was currently doing physically. She explained that her neck and back were much better but she was very stressed out over the accident; so much so that her doctor had to put her on antidepressants.
Jean was very concerned and asked, "What do you mean, you are stressed out? Describe your symptoms to me."
Kay explained that sometimes she was so stressed out she couldn’t even speak. Jean paused, "How do you mean, you can’t speak?" She listened attentively as Kay struggled to explain the frustration of not being to get her words out.
Then Jean asked, "Did you tell your doctor about this?"
"Yes, that’s why he put me on antidepressants."
Jean advised Kay that she should go to another doctor, explain her symptoms, and insist that a CT scan be performed on her brain. That was exactly what Kay did and, as a result, discovered that she had a brain tumor that was causing her to have mild seizures. The seizures were preventing her from speaking.
Kay subsequently had successful brain surgery and was completely cured of her seizures and speaking problems. She was very appreciative that Jean was willing to listen and take diligent action when her doctors and the insurance company wouldn’t.
